Schloss Elsterwerda is a historic château located in Elsterwerda, Brandenburg, Germany. Originally built as a castle in the 13th century, it served as a strategic point monitoring the river route between Dresden and Berlin. The first documented mention of the site dates back to 1288, when it was held by Heinrich von Köckritz under the Margraves of Meissen. The Köckritz family maintained ownership until the 16th century. In the 17th century, the original structures were replaced, and by 1700, a new château was constructed. Significant renovations occurred between 1727 and 1737 under the patronage of Woldemar von Löwendal and later Augustus II of Saxony and Poland, with architects Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann, Johann Christoph Knöffel, and Samuel Locke contributing to its design. The château features a U-shaped layout with two stories and a traditional pitched roof. It has been recognized as an architectural heritage monument in Brandenburg. Today, Schloss Elsterwerda functions as a school, specifically the Elsterschloss-Gymnasium, following its restoration in 1995. The site holds cultural significance and is protected under Brandenburg's architectural heritage laws. It is located on Schloßplatz 1 & 1a, near the Schwarze Elster river.
