Petzow Castle, also known as Schloss Petzow, is a historical estate located in Petzow, part of Werder (Havel) in Brandenburg, Germany. The castle was originally built between 1818 and 1821 by Karl Friedrich August von Kaehne, designed by the renowned architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. It features an asymmetrical plastered structure with romantic neo-Gothic elements, combining Tudor and Italian architectural influences. The estate includes a park designed by Peter Joseph Lenné in 1838, part of the "Verschönerungsplan der Umgebung von Potsdam," which enhances the castle's picturesque setting. The park contains various structures, such as a fisherman’s hut and a washhouse, the latter now serving as a local history museum. The castle has been used as a filming location for German telenovelas like "Bianca - Wege zum Glück" and "Julia - Wege zum Glück." Historically, the von Kaehne family, who acquired the estate in 1814, played a significant role in local industries and were ennobled in 1837. The castle's darker history includes the 1943 shooting of anti-fascist activist Dr. Alfred Mehlhemmer by the von Kaehne family, commemorated on-site. Today, Petzow Castle remains a significant cultural heritage site, attracting visitors interested in history, architecture, and local culture.
