Medieval castle with Neo-Renaissance style in Brandenburg, Germany.
Wiesenburg Castle, also known as Schloss Wiesenburg, is located south of the village center in Wiesenburg/Mark, Brandenburg, Germany, within the Hoher Fläming Nature Park. The castle's origins trace back to the 12th century when it was first mentioned as a Burgwardium in a letter from Bishop Wilmar von Brandenburg in 1161. Initially a medieval fortress, it was destroyed by fire in the 16th century and rebuilt in Renaissance style. The castle underwent significant expansions and renovations over the centuries, including major Neorenaissance style changes in the 19th century under the ownership of the von Watzdorf family. After World War II, the castle served as a school until 1992. It was later purchased by private investors in 1996, who restored it by 2003, converting it into luxury apartments while preserving its historical exterior. The castle park, established in the mid-19th century, is a protected landscape featuring a diverse collection of trees from around the world. Public access is available to parts of the castle grounds, including the main gatehouse and a 48-meter-high tower. The site is recognized as an architectural heritage monument, reflecting its historical and cultural significance in Brandenburg.
