Schloss Boitzenburg is a historic castle located in Boitzenburger Land, Brandenburg, Germany. First mentioned in 1276, it was originally a medieval fortress. In 1398, Markgraf Wilhelm von Meißen recaptured it from the Mecklenburgers. By 1528, it became the permanent residence of the Arnim family through a land exchange. The castle underwent several architectural transformations over the centuries. The "Oberhaus" was constructed between 1537 and 1538, and the "Unterhaus" was expanded around 1600. Significant expansions occurred around 1740 under Georg Dietloff von Arnim-Boitzenburg, who added two wings, creating a three-winged structure with a mansard roof. In the 19th century, Friedrich August Stüler renovated the castle in a neo-Gothic style between 1838 and 1842. Later, from 1881 to 1884, Carl Doflein rebuilt it in a Neo-Renaissance style. The castle is situated on an island, surrounded by a landscape park designed by Peter Joseph Lenné in 1840. After World War II, the castle's valuable inventory was lost, and it served various purposes, including as a rest home for the Nationale Volksarmee of the DDR. In 1998, it was converted into a children's and youth hotel. Despite financial controversies, the castle remains a notable architectural heritage monument in Brandenburg.
