The Heidehöhe is a hill located in Brandenburg, Germany, near Gröden and Strauch, straddling the border with Saxony. At 201.4 meters above sea level, it is Brandenburg's highest point. The actual summit, known as Heideberg (206.1 m), lies just over the border in Saxony. The hill sits within the Grödener Berge range, approximately 2 km south of Gröden and 3 km west of Hirschfeld (both in Brandenburg). Nearby rivers include the Pulsnitz flowing east-west and the Große Röder running southwest-northeast. In 2000, precise measurements confirmed Heidehöhe's status as Brandenburg’s highest elevation. A small granite monument was erected here in 2001 by the Arbeitsgruppe Heimatkunde Liebenwerda, marking it with an inscription: "HEIDEHÖHE 201,4 m ü. NHN." Nearby is a man-made hill with a trigonometric point from the Königlich-Sächsische Triangulation (1862-1890). The first observation tower on Heidehöhe was built in 1853 but destroyed by a storm in 1862. A new wooden tower replaced it and was eventually demolished during World War II. In the late 20th century, there was another temporary observation tower that was dismantled around 1990. In 2007, the local government of Gröden decided to construct a new observation tower called Heidebergturm. The 34-meter-high tower was completed and inaugurated on August 15, 2009, after facing delays due to construction issues. It stands about 150 meters east of the Heidehöhengipfel and is slightly north of Brandenburg's border with Saxony. The Heidebergturm features an overhanging observation platform accessible via 162 steps at approximately 30 meters above ground level. Despite the dense forest cover on Heidehöhe, which limits visibility into the surrounding landscape, the tower offers panoramic views from its deck.
