The Gibraltar Hindu Temple is a Hindu mandir in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, located on Engineer Lane. Completed in 2000, it is Gibraltar’s only Hindu temple and a charitable organisation. It serves as the spiritual centre of the Hindu population, about 1.8% of residents.
The Gibraltar Hindu Temple is a Hindu mandir in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, situated on Engineer Lane, near Main Street. Completed and inaugurated on 1 March 2000, it is the only Hindu temple in Gibraltar and functions as the spiritual centre for the territory’s Hindu population. Gibraltarian Hindus make approximately 1.8% of Gibraltar’s residents, and most are of Sindhi origin, many descended from traders who began doing business in Gibraltar after the opening of the Suez Canal. The temple operates as a charitable organisation with the aim of maintaining and promoting Hindu culture in Gibraltar. Its presiding deity is Rama, along with his consort Sita, his brother Laxman and the devotee Hanuman. Besides the main altar, there are smaller shrines with murtis of Vishnu–Lakshmi, Jhulelal, Shiva–Parvati with Ganesha, and Radha–Krishna, as well as statues of Guru Nanak, Durga and Sai Baba of Shirdi. Daily aarti is performed at 7:30 pm. Regular activities include Sathya Sai Baba satsang and mantra chanting, monthly Shri Satyanarayan Katha on each full moon day, and theological study classes on Hindu culture and scriptures, including a monthly Bhagavad Gita class and a weekly Vedanta study group.
