Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment was an online gambling company formed by the March 2011 merger of PartyGaming plc and Bwin Interactive Entertainment AG, creating what was then the world’s largest publicly traded online gambling firm. The company was headquartered in Gibraltar, at Suite 711, Europort, and was quoted on the London Stock Exchange. Existing PartyGaming shareholders owned 48.4 percent of the merged company and Bwin shareholders 51.6 percent. Joint chief executives were Norbert Teufelberger and Jim Ryan. PartyGaming plc, founded earlier with the launch of Starluck Casino, had become the world’s largest online poker brand before the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. The group was best known for its online poker room PartyPoker, the World Poker Tour, and its sports betting brand Bwin. Its products and services included sports betting on many sports, poker in several variants and stakes, and other casino games. In October 2012, Bwin.Party sold its Ongame poker network to Amaya Gaming Group. Following a protracted bidding process between 888 Holdings and GVC Holdings, the company accepted GVC’s £1.1 billion bid on 4 September 2015. The transaction was completed on 1 February 2016, followed by cancellation of its London-listed shares.
