The Rahav Cave is located near Shatula in northern Israel, close to the Lebanese border. Discovered in July 2014 by a local resident during a landslide, it is the deepest known cave in Israel at 187 meters below ground level. The entrance measures 3.3x6.6 meters and is partially obscured by vegetation. Inside, explorers found three main chambers connected by narrow passages. The first chamber descends to an 80-meter deep second chamber with extensive speleothems like stalactites and stalagmites. A third chamber at the bottom reaches a depth of 165 meters, marking Israel's lowest known point underground. The cave is part of the Ma'ale Yosef Regional Council in the Galilee region. It requires specialized caving equipment for exploration due to its complex structure and narrow passages. Visitors must wear helmets and gloves because conditions are slippery and dangerous. The Rahav Cave offers unique geological formations and a challenging environment for experienced spelunkers, making it an important site for scientific research and adventure tourism in Israel.
