The Reitweiner Wallberge is a historic castle complex located on the Reitweiner Sporn, near the Oderbruch in Brandenburg, Germany. This site, recognized as a cultural heritage monument, has been significant since the 19th century. Archaeological excavations have revealed traces of both Germanic and Slavic settlements, indicating its use during the Slavic Middle Ages, approximately from the 8th to 10th centuries. The castle was part of the settlement area of the Liutizi, a Slavic tribe, and served as a center for local nobility and their followers. The Reitweiner Wallberge is situated about one kilometer south of Reitwein, on a plateau at an elevation of approximately 45 meters. The site covers an area of about four hectares and is divided into two sections by a wall. The fortifications include protective walls and ditches, with steep slopes providing natural defense. Excavations in 1872 and 1930 uncovered various cultural layers and artifacts, including pottery and urns from the Semnones, a Germanic tribe, as well as numerous Slavic ceramics. The Reitweiner Wallberge is part of a network of similar fortifications along the Oder River, highlighting its historical importance as a strategic and cultural site in the region.
