Castle Caputh is a Baroque château located in the village of Caputh, near Potsdam in Brandenburg, Germany. It is the only preserved early Baroque castle in the Potsdam area and stands on the shore of Lake Schwielowsee. Originally built around 1662 by Philippe de La Chièze for Frederick William I, Elector of Brandenburg, the castle was expanded by his second wife, Dorothea Sophie, in 1671. It served as a venue for festive occasions and hunting trips until 1713. The castle features a U-shaped structure with notable Baroque architectural elements, including stucco decorations and ceiling paintings. The interior boasts a lavishly decorated festival hall and a tile room adorned with approximately 7,500 blue-and-white Dutch faience tiles. The castle houses collections of furniture, porcelain, and sculptures from Dorothea's era. It also holds significant cultural heritage value, recognized as an architectural monument in Brandenburg. After being used as a vocational training facility post-1947, it underwent major restoration from 1995 to 1999. Today, Castle Caputh operates as a museum managed by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation, offering guided tours and hosting various cultural events throughout the year.
