Burg Malchow is a castle ruin located on the Schlossberg plateau near Bad Freienwalde, Germany. It is a Höhenburg, or hill castle, dating back to around 1214. The castle is situated at the northeastern edge of the Barnim plateau, overlooking the Oderbruch and the Oder River, providing a strategic vantage point for controlling the Oder crossing and the intersection of two ancient trade routes. The site is characterized by remnants of stone and brick masonry, with notable ruins including the remains of a palatial building and a gate structure. Historically, Burg Malchow was part of a network of fortifications established by the Wettin dynasty in the 13th century to secure their territories against the Ascanian and Lebus Piast forces. The castle later became part of the Mark Brandenburg under the Ascanian rule after the Teltow and Magdeburg wars in 1245. By the late 14th century, it was under the control of the Uchtenhagen family, who served as Brandenburgian officials. Today, the ruins of Burg Malchow are recognized as a heritage site, designated as a Bodendenkmal, and continue to be a point of historical interest in the region.
