Schloss Sallgast is a historic water castle located in the village of Sallgast, Elbe-Elster district, Brandenburg, Germany. Originally constructed in the 12th century as a Wasserburg, it played a significant role during the Thirty Years' War, withstanding a siege by Swedish troops. The castle was owned by the von Rohr family from 1652 to 1714, and later by Johann Heinrich von Jampert, who reconstructed it between 1744 and 1775 into its current four-winged structure. The surrounding Schlosspark, designed in the English style, was developed around 1880 and expanded in 1911 by Robert von Löbenstein. In 1911-1912, architect Bodo Ebhardt restored the castle, which has had numerous owners throughout its history. In 1989, the castle faced potential demolition due to plans for a nearby lignite mine expansion, but these were abandoned after German reunification in 1990. Today, Schloss Sallgast serves as a hotel-restaurant and is used by the local community administration. It is recognized as an architectural heritage monument, featuring a quadrangular layout with four round corner towers. The castle and its park are accessible to visitors, maintaining its historical significance and offering a glimpse into its storied past.
