The Bismarckturm in Bad Freienwalde is one of the earliest Bismarck towers in Germany, constructed in 1895 to honor the first German Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck. Designed by architect Ernst Milde, the tower stands on the 77-meter-high Schlossberg hill, offering panoramic views from its 28-meter height. The structure features a medieval design with stone battlements and small turrets, accessed via 113 wooden steps leading to an observation platform. Built on the foundations of the medieval Burg Malchow, the tower was financed by the Freienwalder Geschichtsverein through share sales. It was inaugurated on September 22, 1895, and later transferred debt-free to the city of Bad Freienwalde in 1911. The tower underwent restoration from 1991 to 1994, funded by the state of Brandenburg, which included replacing tiles and reinstalling historical coats of arms. Today, it is managed by a local committee and supported by volunteers. The Bismarckturm is a designated architectural heritage monument, reflecting the era of German unification and national pride. It remains a popular destination for visitors interested in history and architecture, offering insights into the cultural heritage of the region.
