This area, once heavily scarred by three decades of lignite mining, is now a surreal landscape undergoing natural restoration. The transformation has turned the former mining site into a new wilderness, where nature and people can find solace. The landscape, with its red-glowing spoil heaps at sunset, resembles a Martian terrain. Visitors can experience the haunting calls of cranes in autumn and the trumpeting of whooper swans in winter, adding to the otherworldly atmosphere.
