The Little Synagogue in Gibraltar is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue at 91 Irish Town, on the site of a former meat market. In 1759 a yeshiva founded by Isaac Netto was converted into this synagogue for Moroccan Jews who did not wish to attend Gibraltar’s Great Synagogue.
The Little Synagogue in Gibraltar, also known in Ladino as Esnoga Chica, is a synagogue in Gibraltar located at 91 Irish Town, on the site of a former meat market. It follows the Orthodox Jewish tradition. According to information given for the building, 1759 is listed as the year of construction. In 1759 a yeshiva founded by Isaac Netto was transformed into a synagogue for Moroccan Jews who did not wish to attend the Great Synagogue in Gibraltar, which was used by Sephardic Jews. This change marked the beginning of the Little Synagogue as a separate place of worship for that community.
