Panorama was a daily compact tabloid newspaper based at 95 Irish Town, Gibraltar. It was founded in December 1975 by journalist Joe Garcia Snr. MBE, who edited the paper until his death in 2022. Initially published as a weekly newspaper, Panorama became a daily in 2002. It gained particular distinction in 1997 when it became the first Gibraltar newspaper to establish an online edition, available through Panorama.gi. From its inception, the paper had been a strong defender of freedom of the press and believed in publishing the views of all sectors of Gibraltar society. Its founding editor, Joe Garcia, was the first Gibraltar journalist to receive an award in The Queen’s Honours List for his services to journalism in Gibraltar and overseas. He wrote extensively about Gibraltar in foreign publications, including the London Financial Times for 25 years and Spain’s leading daily El Pais for 10 years. After Joe Garcia’s death, editorship passed to his daughter, Lorraine Baldachino, who served as editor from 2022 to 2024. Panorama ceased publication with its final edition on 26 April 2024, ending almost five decades as a prominent English and Llanito-language newspaper in Gibraltar.
