Gibraltar Aerobeacon is an active aeronautical lighthouse on the Rock of Gibraltar, built in 1841 and operated by the Government of Gibraltar. The grey metallic, square skeletal steel tower has a focal height of 405 metres and displays a red light flashing the Morse Code for Gibraltar, visible up to 30 nautical miles.
Gibraltar Aerobeacon is an aeronautical lighthouse on the Rock of Gibraltar in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. Built in 1841, it is also known as the Gibraltar Aviation Light and Gibraltar Aero Light. Although The Lighthouse Directory notes it does not strictly meet its lighthouse criteria, the light is given an exception and appears with a single Admiralty number in multiple official lists. The beacon stands as a grey metallic, square skeletal steel tower with a balcony and a large gallery platform carrying a round radar apparatus. Its active red light has a focal height of 405 metres and a range of about 30 nautical miles. The light characteristic is distinctive: it flashes the Morse Code for “Gibraltar,” with two long flashes and a short flash, followed by a long flash and three short flashes, repeated every ten seconds. Positioned on top of the Rock of Gibraltar near historic signal facilities, the aerobeacon is operated by the Government of Gibraltar. Both the site and the light tower are closed to the public. It is listed in the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office Admiralty List of Lights and Fog Signals and in the United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Publication 113.
