St. Bernard's Church, also known as Iglesia de San Bernardo, is a Roman Catholic parish church in Gibraltar. It stands on Europa Road near Europa Point, the territory’s southernmost tip. The church forms part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar. The building overlooks the Strait of Gibraltar and offers views across the Bay of Gibraltar and North Africa, including the Jebel Musa mountain on the southern coast of the Strait. The church is named after Bernard of Clairvaux, one of Gibraltar’s two patron saints, and it shares its name with the local hospital. Historically, St. Bernard’s began as the Roman Catholic church of the British Armed Forces in Gibraltar. A small disused armoury on Europa Road was converted into a simple church, served by Royal Navy Roman Catholic padres and also attended by some Gibraltarian civilians. After a rationalisation of military facilities, responsibility for the church passed to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gibraltar in the early 1990s. The parish offers daily Mass along with other liturgical services and hosts various social and fundraising events. Visitors frequently describe a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere and report positive experiences during their time at St. Bernard’s Church.
