Eastern Beach is a sandy beach and settlement on Gibraltar’s northeastern Mediterranean coast, on the isthmus linking the Rock of Gibraltar to Spain. Stretching several hundred metres, it is the territory’s largest beach. The surrounding area is both residential and industrial, and the beach enjoys sunshine all day until sunset.
Eastern Beach is a sandy beach and settlement on the northeastern coast of the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It lies on the isthmus that joins the Rock of Gibraltar to Spain, in the territory of the isthmus near the runway of Gibraltar International Airport and the Gibraltar–Spain border. The beach extends from the north of Catalan Bay to the airport runway, covering several hundred metres of Gibraltar’s eastern shoreline, and is described as the longest and widest, and the largest, beach on the Rock. The surrounding urban environment is both residential and industrial. Unlike most of Gibraltar’s other beaches, which at times lack direct sunshine because they fall under the Rock’s shadow, Eastern Beach enjoys abundant direct sunlight throughout the day until sunset. Access to the beach is via Eastern Beach Road on the Gibraltar side and by a parallel road, Devils Tower Road, which runs beside the beach until it reaches the airport runway. One of the few hazards that can lead to red flags being flown is the presence of jellyfish. On occasion, jellyfish such as the Mauve Stinger, Pelagia noctiluca, can arrive in significant numbers, posing a risk to bathers.
