The Caleta Hotel, also called Caleta Palace Hotel, was a four‑star hotel at Catalan Bay in Gibraltar, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Built in 1964, it offered guest rooms, suites and an Italian restaurant, Nunos. It won Gibraltar’s Leading Hotel Award from 2009 to 2012, closed in 2021 and was demolished in 2022.
The Caleta Hotel, also known as Caleta Palace Hotel, was a four‑star hotel in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It stood at Catalan Bay, a small bay and fishing village on the eastern side of the Rock of Gibraltar, separate from the main town and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The hotel’s name came from “La Caleta”, the traditional Spanish‑period name for Catalan Bay and its fishing settlement. Built in 1964, the hotel later received Government of Gibraltar funding in 1972 under the Hotel Development Aid Programme to increase its bed capacity by over 100. The Caleta Hotel offered a variety of guest rooms and suites and operated an Italian restaurant. Nunos Italian Restaurant, part of the hotel, received two rosettes from The Automobile Association. Amenities at the hotel included a spa, an outdoor grill, a business centre and a café. The Caleta Hotel earned Gibraltar’s Leading Hotel Award at the World Travel Awards on four occasions, from 2009 to 2012. In 2021 the hotel closed permanently, and in 2022 the building was demolished, placing it among demolished buildings and structures in Gibraltar and ending the history of one of the territory’s notable four‑star hotels.
