Queen’s Hotel, also known as Hotel Queen, was a family-run hotel in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. It stood on 1 Boyd Street, between Trafalgar Cemetery and the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens, near the Alameda Botanical Gardens and Gibraltar’s cable car, both less than 100 metres away. Established in 1954, the Queen’s Hotel described itself as “Gibraltar’s only budget hotel,” serving tourists for many decades. The property featured 62 rooms, some with balconies, and a restaurant offering panoramic views across the bay. Guests could also use a spacious bar and lounge area that included wooden beamed ceilings and traditional brick archways. Its location and pricing positioned it as an accessible option within Gibraltar’s accommodation scene. The Gibraltar Government purchased the hotel’s lease as part of plans to develop a new Theatre Complex that will include the Queen’s Cinema. After over sixty years of operation, the Queen’s Hotel closed in June 2014, with some sources also referencing closure in December 2014. The Ministry of Culture had announced its intention to acquire the site months earlier, noting that negotiations were lengthy and detailed before the project could proceed.
