Schloss Karnzow is a manor house in Kartzow, a district of Potsdam in Germany. It developed from an earlier knight’s estate and was rebuilt between 1912 and 1914 in a Baroque style to plans by the Berlin architect Eugen Schmohl. The earlier estate had been reshaped into a castle-like manor house in 1850, but the property was later demolished and replaced under the ownership of the Berlin spirits manufacturer Arthur Gilka. The new three-wing building, with 66 rooms, became known as Landhaus Gilka. The estate changed hands several times in the 20th century. In 1940, the former Sanssouci garden director Georg Potente redesigned the park as a landscape park. The manor house and grounds were also used that year for exterior filming for the German feature film Kopf hoch, Johannes!. In 1941 the estate was acquired by the Reich treasury and taken over by the Wehrmacht. After the Second World War, the building served as accommodation for displaced people, then from 1949 as a convalescent home for children. It later housed a children’s home and a sanatorium for children with kidney disease, and stood empty from 1998 to 2006. After restoration in 2007, it became an events venue, a branch of the Potsdam registry office, and, from 2010, also a hotel.
